Where We Came From
In some ways Scout has always been with me, in others, I remember that I was afraid to say out loud that I wanted to run a business.
I was scared to create videos and post them on social media. I was afraid to call out my experience as an OSC and what I know through trial and error, works for us.
I was always thinking about what I wanted as an OSC when my access to resources was unavailable.
I was thinking about all the great OSCs I came across who wanted and needed encouragement and reminders. They needed someone to help them through challenges. In so many industries we have education and courses to tell us what best practices are, but in sales, it’s often the consultant you can afford.
And so, I sat down in mid August and started dreaming of what to call it. I was so nervous, even in my corner of my couch where no one knew what I was doing, writing down what my dreams were.
They were for you. They were for the teams I’ve worked with. They were for the friends I’ve made and kept along the way. They were for our community of OSCs.
It needed to engage my core beliefs at the same time: that everyone deserves access to support. That exclusivity is for the birds. Education and information will empower us to be better. Every single person who’s willing to put in the work can change their program and in turn, their business.
The name Scout came to me really quickly. That made me nervous. I landed on the name during a time when I was experiencing a big personal shift as I said goodbye to the oldest generation of my family. I was inspired by how they engaged with the world. How my grandfather was the ultimate boy scout and my grandmother’s very formal and very silly girl scout crafts were legendary stories in our household. It was in part how my Nana understood everything in the room but never let on. She used that power to her advantage to make the space better for everyone. In each of their ways they trained me to scout, they trained me to create good in the world.
The name fit with who we are as OSCs. Unsure of the shape it was to take but knowing the goals I had, I took a step and made it a thing by establishing the industry’s first Substack. I didn’t know exactly what else would come, but I wanted to share my voice with you all without restraint.
I created the Scout Substack account and knew what I needed to call it. You see, there was something I had been privately working on for years.
Where We’re Going
Scout The Sale has been the title of my book since early 2023, the book I’ve been writing and keeping close to my heart since nearly 2017. It took a career to come to a place where I could rewrite it and bring the resource I really wanted to it’s first full iteration.
And so, in 2025, I am so thrilled to announce I’ll be publishing Scout The Sale1.
I’ve designed this experience in two parts.
Part I: A read through of how to establish and set your program up for success.
Part II: Throw it all the way back to those scouting guides - yes, I’m giving you a choose your own adventure guide where you can select the skill you want to focus in on and learn all you can from it.
Keep up with Scout Social accounts for our official release date. We post on Instagram and LinkedIn and always love to connect with you directly here.
Bonus: I’m pretty thrilled about the look of the ebook version, but I love a good physical copy. I’m working on bringing both options to you.
With that off of my chest… we’re changing how we connect, just a little, and growing into our full business title of Scout Online Sales Collective, or Scout OSC. Our domain will be shifting to www.scoutosc.com and you can now reach me at diana@scoutosc.com.
Scout the Sale has always been my book title and as my services and business grows, so will who we are. Change is good.
Finally, Substack.
Substack is where it all started and hearing feedback from every one of you about how a single post gave you what you needed to make a change is the entire reason I began this.
As I’ve listened to folks’ needs I’ve heard something over and over: OSCs are self-funding their learning. While I hoped many of you would be able to have the substack gifted by leaders, you’ve been paying for it yourself. And so, with that we are lowering the cost.
There’s so much more for us to talk about and explore as our role as the OSC and shaping our programs change, with the addition of my book, we know we can arm you with timely and relevant information. Substack remains a huge resource of information for OSC, your subscription gives you access to all articles. I can guarantee if you have a question, it’s probably been written about - in technical detail.
Thank You
This post felt a little bit like an homage to where I’ve been as I’ve created this business, but it would be nothing without the community and the clients who have trusted me to give my insight and skills to them.
There are so many individuals whose curiosity has fueled me to find a better way forward and to change previous ideas and standard operations about how our programs run. The world shifts and we shift with it, the question is whether we’ll be ahead of that curve or not.
Thank you to everyone who has been here, especially those behind the scenes whose encouragement and belief has kept me fueled. I couldn’t do any of it without you.
