The 3 Year Itch: So You Want to Grow as an OSC?
There’s a term used when discussing OSCs: lifer.
It’s actually a little hard to be a lifer. I didn’t realize I’d find myself among those, but it’s a badge I proudly wear. Just today I took the opportunity to jump in and do some major OSC work because even when I’m writing about it and coaching on it, there’s just nothing like getting in the weeds and taking care of those customers.
What I’ve seen over the years is that this role is a really good entry point and there’s a timeline of development OSCs go through before there is the inevitable “how do you want to grow” conversation. A lot of us would stay OSCs forever as long as our compensation grows with us. But inevitably somewhere around three years a lot of OSCs see their shelf life.
