Putting the Concierge in OSC
Would it surprise you to hear that I looked up the exact meaning of concierge?
I did. It’s pretty specific:
noun: concierge; plural noun: concierges
(especially in France) a caretaker of an apartment complex or a small hotel, typically one living on the premises.
a hotel employee whose job is to assist guests by arranging tours, making theater and restaurant reservations, etc.
There’s lots of debate about what this role is now-a-days. When the internet was a new thing “online sales…” seemed right but it also put us in a little box that got ignored. Still, other places have renamed the role to something the outside world doesn’t really get.
Whatever our title, how can we be more like a concierge for those we are working with? What can we imagine a concierge is for the building industry? I think it looks like a caretaker, an ambassador, a guide, and a servant leader.
